‘All things counter, original, spare, strange;
Whatever is fickle, freckled (who knows how?)’
– Pied Beauty, G M Hopkins
Why dappled things? For their beauty and variety and imperfection. Oh, and ‘As kingfishers catch fire, dragonflies draw flame’ seemed a little long as a blog title.
This blog has no purpose other than to record my thoughts, as and when they occur. If it takes my fancy, I’ll blog about it. If it doesn’t, I won’t. You can call me eclectic, if you like. Or scatterbrained. Doesn’t really matter to me, although I like being labelled as little as the next person.
You’ll find all sorts of topics here: art, literature, history, law and politics, society and social justice, science and skepticism, nature and travel. I’m a complete sucker for cute baby animals and sad stories. And horses. I love horses.

I usually seek out images subject to Creative Commons licences which include permission to reproduce. If you see an image here for which permission to reproduce is required, and I appear not to have sought that permission, please contact me and I’ll remove, apologise and/or correct my post as appropriate.
My space. My rules. Don’t like them? Don’t come.
